Shallow Pockets Brimming with That Red, White & Blue

"America's one of the finest countries anyone ever stole."
-Bobcat Goldthwaite

Yesterday was the 4th of July. Happy, happy birthday, America! I very much missed the lake, bbqs, fireworks, Americana outfits and the camaraderie of everyone's celebrations.  It's strange being in the country we're celebrating independence from... strange but, well, it did make me feel a little extra patriotic, haha.  England does not celebrate our independence- which would be expected- but they do celebrate Australia's Independence Day... isn't that funny?

Anyway- my 4th was a bit low key this year. But I couldn't let it go completely unobserved.  I made my gramma's potato salad [a staple at every 4th I've ever spent at Lake Hartwell] and a very patriotic pie to share around the office and you better believe I rocked those stars and stripes.

My co-workers were all so nice about wishing me a Happy 4th of July Day [hehe]; there were even a handful that are out of the office in other countries that took the time to text and call. It meant an awful, awful lot. I got to talk to my daddy about my family's plans and ohhhh man did my heartstrings pull me west.  After work my co-worker, Thea, and I got a few drinks. Now, I am a Guiness or Newcastle kind of woman and I seldom veer from that path... but it was America's day so, I drank something I never would have otherwise:

A big ole pint of Bud.

The real celebration will be on Saturday- one of my sorority sisters that lives in London is having a 4th party and I cannot WAIT to get down and dirty to some down home country music. It's been too, too long.

To those across the pond- I hope your fireworks were the brightest yet, your music the loudest yet and your beers the coldest yet. And I hope you drank something better than Budweiser.
HAPPY 4TH, Y'ALL!
